Here are a few tips to help you
plan your reception.
Will you announce the Bride/Groom entrance.
Yes, always !
Will you interact with the
caterer, photographer, coordinator ? Yes,
as a matter of fact I will let them know when you are ready for your
first dance, father daughter dance, mother son dance, Dollar dance, and
any special dances. This way the photographer may get ready to take
pictures. No one gets surprised.
I am expecting about 200 people where should I have my
reception, Just about anywhere, but if you are
having under 100 people I suggest a nice small venue, email me for more
suggestions on this.
How do I pay online, I will send you a request for money in
an email.
When should I have dinner ready to serve,
As soon as the newlyweds arrive, because you don't want your guests to wait too long, since they have already
been waiting for you to arrive.
Should I have music during the bouquet and garter,
Yes if you wish but keep in mind that the DJ will
be talking through all of the song and nobody will probably hear any of
the song. You want the focus to be you. I suggest no song during the
bouquet, but for the garter I suggest the stripper while he is taking
off the garter. Perhaps a slow song of your choice right after.
This does not mean that no song can be played at this time.
How do I know if my DJ is doing a good job,
Are people dancing, if not ask your guests (maybe
they don't dance) or perhaps the music you selected is not their choice. If they are dancing and having a good time, yes your
DJ is doing just fine. Remember you invited these guests and you want
them to have as much fun as you.
Should I make out a time chart for the DJ to do things,
A time chart , no. An order of events, yes.
I simply do not like Rap music do you have to play it,,,
No, typically rap will not be played if you choose. On the music request
page the is an area where you may choose for the DJ to take all requests
or requests that are similar to yours
Can you suggest a good first dance song.
Yes if you go to the music selection page you may
find a link to the top most requested first dance songs.
How long do most receptions last,
Most last 4 hours including dinner, although with your larger receptions
of 250 and more, up to 7 hours. A few have been 8-10 hours
Do you know any good caterers,,,
Yes I am always running into good catering email me for the ones near
you. I have seen very good response from Hy-Vee all over town.
I just don't like the electric slide or the cha cha
slide, do you have to play them. They do not
have to be played although remember you have guests and you want them to
have fun too. If requested yes allow the DJ to play them, this way you
satisfy all your guests. I will normally ask the bride and groom if it
is ok to play them if I have requests for them. No surprises !
I don't know what music to select so what do I do,,,
Select a few songs that you like, let your DJ play
songs that are similar to your requests and use
his/her experience to work the crowd. This happens more often than you
think.
Why should I hire a DJ, A DJ can
play more requests than a band for starters, and you want to entertain
your guests. I agree the bride and groom come first, although you did
invite all these guests so now what? Let your DJ play guests
requests as long as it has clean lyrics. If absolutely necessary if it is
a really bad song save it for next to the last song in the
evening, this way the kids are gone and so are Grandma and Grandpa. You
invited all these guests and had food prepared for them, etc... a lot of
time and money went into this, do not forget your guests and their needs
for dance music. Sure hiring a band that plays one type of music is
good, but can they cater to all your guests??? Probably not.
The focus should be to the bride
and groom all night. DJ speaking ''Congrats to our newlyweds put your
hands together for them.'' Everyone applause .
